Dra. Paola Ávila Zúñiga, Nutritionist
My name is Paola Ávila, I am a nutritionist by profession completely in love with my career. Since I was little I was related to the world of food and I love helping others, so choosing Nutrition as a professional career has been one of the greatest successes in my life and exercising it of my greatest satisfactions.
I did my studies at the University of Medical Sciences in San José Costa Rica, where I graduated in 2012 with honors. I am a nutritionist, member of the College of Nutrition Professionals of Costa Rica and of the Costa Rican Association of Dietitians and Nutritionists (ACDYN).
In 2012, together with my thesis colleagues, we had the opportunity to present our final graduation work at the IX National Nutrition Congress of Costa Rica with the theme: "Promotion of eating habits and healthy lifestyles in the school population through recreational and recreational activities. ”The objective of which was to teach school children about nutrition and health through the method of learning by playing.
I am constantly receiving training in different areas especially in Sports Nutrition, overweight / obesity, hormonal disorders and treatment of other chronic non-communicable diseases.
In 2014 I took the course for the ISAK Level 1 Anthropometric Technician certification, for the analysis of the somatotype by taking skin folds. This certification has allowed me to analyze the body shape of swimmers and triathlonists, in order to direct the treatment objectives to an improvement in their sports performance.
Also in the same year (2014), I received the final accreditation to teach the Food Handling course from the National Learning Institute, a requirement for people who work in food services.
In my professional practice I have had the opportunity to work in different areas of Nutrition:
- In 2012-2013 I was the sub-coordinator of the Nutrition and Food Commission of the Central American Sports Games San José 2013. Where we were in charge of 39 food services (22 in sports venues and 17 in GAM hotels), food and hydration of athletes before, during and after the different competitions, preparation of menus for athletes, coaching staff and administrative staff, training for volunteers and other administrative processes

- I worked as a Quality Control Nutritionist in the food service of Hospital CIMA
- I was the advisory nutritionist of the Moyo Ice Creams during 2012-2014. With which we carry out Health Tours through various shopping centers in the country with the theme "Benefits of yogurt" and with "One-to-one" in the different ice cream parlors.
- I have collaborated in the media in programs such as Buen Día de Teletica, Giros de Repretel, Radio Actual 107.1 FM, National Radio 101.5 FM, La Prensa Libre, Pasión por Correr and VOS Vida Óptima y Salud Magazine
In 2013 I decided to form my own company which I named Bionut, located in San Francisco de Dos Ríos. Currently Bionut offers its nutritional services to the Guppys Swimming and Gym Academy and to Pfizer Costa Rica.
I hope I can help you with whatever you need!
